Mrs. Hockert
Hi. My name is Sue Hockert. I am a teacher at Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School. This is my 6th year teaching 2nd grade, in room 501. I have been in education for 35 + years. My experience has been working with children from preschool age through adults at Stanford University and community colleges in the Bay Area. I have worked in co-op schools, college lab schools and public schools both in regular and special day classes. I have a Masters in Education, as well as being Apple Certified and STREAM Certified. As we all did, I too added remote teaching, hybrid, and phase 3 to the list.
I moved to Carlsbad from the Bay Area 20 years ago, and began working for Encinitas School District in grades 4th, 3rd, 1st, and kindergarten. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work at OPE. I have met incredible teachers who are now role models for my own professional growth. The families and children inspire me each day to do the very best job I can do. I look forward to the many years to come.
At home I am married to my amazing husband, Karl. We have four grown sons, and 3 daughters. Eric lives away from home and is a manager of a restaurant. Ryan graduated with his degree in physical therapy and works with adaptive surfers and athletes. His wife Cassie is a 2nd grade teacher at El Camino Creek. Willy has opened his new restaurant, Matsu, in Oceanside. He is shooting for Michelin star and talk is he is on his way. He has created 2 side businesses too, Naegi, a pop up for delicious to go Japanese food and Hokaido Bread. Go figure, he is a baker now too. Willy is married to his wife is Jess. She is a recent graduate, and now an RN, while raising our granddaughters. We am so proud of her. And our youngest, Joey, lives in the Bay Area working as a financial analyst. His wife, Lainey, is a teacher too! We look forward to the beautiful future they will have. ;) We have an 8 year old granddaughter, Lennon, and her sister Valor, who is 4 years old. Our grandson Bodhi turned 2 this summer. He is always laughing and such a good boy. And this summer we added sweet Emma. These littles have blessed us all with love and sweetness. They are all awesome individuals and I feel very lucky to call myself their mom/Lola.
I enjoy weekend trips on our Harley Davidson, exploring hole in the wall restaurants along the way. I like gardening, cooking, and taking our 9 year old puppy, Sadie to the beach or walks around the lagoon. Since I was five years old I always wanted to be a teacher. I am so very lucky to be living my dream.
